9/18: Initial Research

Upon researching existing wellness products on the market I began to notice trends in approaches. These included wellness gamification, aesthetic environmental optimizers, body aid tools, and food/drug supplements, with all appearing to center around ritual. Many of the items I found online lacked overt functional use, custom pillowcases and salt-lamps for example, and appeared to serve entirely aesthetic purposes. While aesthetics are important in creating spaces for wellness, I do not believe they should be relied on completely for a product's success. Addressing ones bodily concerns appears to be more worthwhile, furthermore wellness gamification could prove to be capable of inciting personal reflection that aids in improving both physical and mental health. Connecting with ritual, gamification could be a powerful tool for making sure a wellness product is impactful on a user's sense of wellbeing.
